As soon as we see our body get out of shape, we start practicing minuscule changes which is in our control things like reducing that one cup of tea/ coffee reducing sugar intake, try and skip a meal to avoid the calorie intake or just take a few moments for a walk around the community to increase the level of activity. Not only that we might go an extra mile to find an affordable gym membership or a swimming pool to swim and to the extreme to find a slimming the center which promises to make us lose weight with pills or any other way.

We really need to focus on this pressing issue as increasing weight affects our well-being. We generally priorities everything else and take our health for granted. We tend to reach a point where we are forced to take some immediate and corrective action.

How possibly we can combat increasing weight??

Let’s analyze the point when we started gaining weight. The factors that are affecting our weight, Is it our age? Possibly a change of place, is it our lifestyle change, Work and personal stress, or just plain overeating. These are the reason which is under our control, yet there could be a reason beyond our control i.e age or hormonal issues, still, we can work our way to be stable.

Anyone who is fighting this battle needs to work on his lifestyle as it creates a routine and keeps us on track. Know if we belong to an Earlybird or Nighthawk group, Let us say if we generally work at night and belong to the evening group, we should not try to match ourselves with people who wake up at 4–30 am and go for a workout. Being around like-minded people or people who have the same schedule or who want to lose weight or people who at least respect what we are trying to do can be a relief.

After setting our daily schedule eating at regular intervals considering the portion size and the quality of food we eat can stop us from further increasing our weight. We can do some research on what foods suits our stomach. Though eating oats can be healthy and good it might make some of us heavy and uneasy.

Here comes the most difficult part; making physical activity part of our routine. A wise thing to do is to get a medical check done before engaging in REGULAR physical activity.

Generally, when we think of physical activity the first thing that comes to our mind is joining a gym or walking. Both in spite of being physical activities are not the only options. List out all the possible physical activities and considering our likes and dislikes, we need to choose the activity we can enjoy as we are trying to battle for the long run.

Start slowly if we have been sedentary all our lives we might join a gym and go every day for the first month, and then the memory of that discomfort will make us lazy to go again, the point is we need to continue it for long.

Activity that our body is familiar with can help us get started, the easiest thing is walking or if we had a history of being into any sport we can restart from there. We have those who never took part in any physical activities yet when they hit the dance floor no one can match them, so there is no harm in starting with a dance class.

Monitoring can be lifesaving here as after all this math of engaging in physical activity, it will motivate us to keep moving. For example,
1. Walking/Cycling: keeping a track of time and distance is vital if not step counts can serve the purpose.
2. Swimming: Time and no of meters you swim, if not laps can be mindful.
3. Gym: No of days in a week and in a month, the weights we lift and the reps we do if not we can use heart rate tracking with a smartwatch or heart rate monitor.

Last but not least, progressing slowly and keeping a track of where our weight is will motivate us to keep going. Monthly Inbody analyses or checking our weight monthly or if we can't do any of these checking our outfit size can be accommodating. Always by one size small and aim to wear it as soon as you can. We know that it is a tough journey but together we can make it a reality.

I sincerely thank you for your valuable time reading this article. For me, it is a surety that you want to change yourself, and I have faith that you will prioritize and become healthier than you are at this moment. You will and can be a better version of yourself.
